Our Parish

Beaufort Parish has an average Mass/Lay Led assembly of about forty parishioners each Sunday.

In the early 1970's. Beaufort became a Parish alone from Ararat.  We were privileged to have had a resident Parish Priest for more than thirty years.  Beaufort, Streatham and Buangor were the three mass centres.  There was a Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Group, Ladies Guild, Liturgy Group and weekly RE classes for children.

In 1986, Lexton joined and we became four mass centres.

From 1979 to 2007, the Beaufort House of Prayer, while not the property of the Parish, was nevertheless very much part of our Parish life.

From 1995 onwards, there were many opportunities to engage in dialogue concerning the changing nature of Beaufort Parish with neighbouring Parishes and the Diocese of Ballarat.

In 2004, Beaufort became linked to Redan Parish with Fr Gerry Baldock as our Parish Administrator.  Streatham, Lexton and Buangor, incidentally, were no longer part of Beaufort Parish.  Probably, some of the most significant changes for us have been the regular gatherings on some Sundays for Lay Led Liturgy; not having a resident priest; however, having Sr Sheila Belleville as a warm, gentle and welcome presence in the Parish House.

Fr Gerry Baldock retired in January 2009 and since then our parish has been administered by Fr Justin Driscoll from Ballarat Cathedral Parish with assistance from Fr Kevin Maloney.

Life in our small Faith Community of Beaufort is centered around gathering on a Sunday.  Parishioners participate as Readers, Special Ministers (distributing the Eucharist at mass and to the relevant residents of the Nursing Home, the Hostel and private homes), Lay Led Liturgy Leaders, preparation of church environment, Liturgy Group (preparation for Sundays and other special celebrations centered around Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas), Children's Liturgy, Cleaning and Maintenance roster, Newsletter and Website communication with the Diocese of Ballarat.

Parish Council meets monthly. Sacramental preparation is as required for Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation and Funeral Ministry (to assist with preparation and support in bereavement), in conjunction with Fr Justin Driscoll.

There exists a Parish Directory of 167 known Catholics living in and around Beaufort.  It is estimated that this number represents 92 families, of which, 38 families participate in the week to week activities, 15 families occasionally and 39 families are not participating.
