Gospel Good News

Easter Triduum Year C

At Easter, we follow Jesus’ journey to the cross and resurrection over three days (triduum).

Holy Thursday The Lord’s Supper: Jesus cares for and serves his disciples, he washes their feet, then tells them: “I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done.”

Good Friday The Passion of the Lord: We hear the Passion of Jesus Christ as recorded in St John’s Gospel.  At his trial, Jesus says: “I was born for this, I came into the world for this; to bear witness to the truth, and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice.”

Easter Vigil / Easter Sunday The Resurrection of the Lord: At the Vigil we reflect on the story of the people of God through readings from Scripture.  Then people are baptised and we all renew our baptismal promises.  We welcome and celebrate Jesus the risen Christ.  St Luke’s Gospel tells of the women at dawn discovering the stone had been rolled away from the entrance to the tomb and Jesus’ body was gone.  Two men in brilliant white suddenly appeared. These angels said, “Why look among the dead for someone who is alive? He is not here; he has risen. Remember what Jesus told you when he was still in Galilee: that the Son of Man had to be handed over into the power of sinful men and be crucified, and rise again on the third day.” And the women remembered Jesus’ words.  We reflect on the events of these three days, and what it means to believe.
