Catholic Education Ballarat (CEB) staff member Jim Waight has been named the City of Ballarat’s 2026 Citizen of the Year.

Jim was recognised for his extraordinary leadership and generosity through Jimmy’s Licorice Allsorts – the fundraising cycling team he founded after his own experience with cancer. Since 2020, the team has raised more than $303,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, completed five Murray to Moyne Cycling Relays and ridden over 18,600 kilometres in support of regional cancer research.

Fellow Catholic Education Ballarat staff Tim O’Farrell, Brendan Chalmers and Michael Heenan (Principal, St Augustine’s Creswick) ride alongside Jim as part of the team, and that CEB colleagues across the organisation have supported Jim’s fundraising efforts over many years, contributing time, encouragement and generosity to this important cause.

Jim’s humility, determination and unwavering commitment to helping others make this recognition so well deserved. Congratulations, Jim, on this outstanding achievement.
