Diocesan News

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday:  July 6, 2025

The theme for this year is, “Sent Forth in Strength and Hope.”

NAIDOC Week:  July 6 – July 13, 2025

Many schools across our diocese have recently recognised National NAIDOC Week 2025, embracing this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”

From liturgies and traditional dance workshops to storytelling, art, music, and learning about Country, students and staff have explored the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Across classrooms, libraries, gardens and schoolyards, this has been a time of learning, reflection, and deep respect. It has been a reminder of the role we all play in reconciliation and the legacy we are helping shape for the next generation.

Thank you to the many First Nations students, families, educators, and community members who have shared their knowledge and stories with us.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday) to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy

NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
