A particular highlight of the month of June was the launch of St Joseph’s Primary School Charlton’s very own Art Exhibition at Mallee Creatives. This term-long project was centred around the Diocesan theme of Peace and provided students with an opportunity to explore and express what peace means to them through a range of artistic mediums.
Each student proudly displayed two framed artworks: one depicting their personal interpretation of peace and a second peace-themed piece. In addition, visitors enjoyed a colourful collection of 3D collages, beaded creations, and sculptures that showcased the creativity and talent of our students.
The exhibition was officially launched on Wednesday, June 24 by Margaret Anne Wright, who, with the assistance of our students, formally opened the exhibition. The evening was made even more special by a beautiful performance of What a Wonderful World by our students, delivering an emotive message of love, hope, and peace to all in attendance.
Year 6 Term Leader Yazmin Harte-Johnstone spoke confidently on behalf of the student body, while four students shared insights into their individual artworks with the large crowd gathered for the occasion. Maddie – Intertwined, Vinny – Running Into Peace, Shepherd – Cluck and Sam – Colour My World. Following the launch, students enjoyed a celebratory cupcake before eagerly leading their families on a hunt through the gallery to locate and share their artwork.
It was truly a fantastic evening. The white walls of Mallee Creatives were transformed into a vibrant display of colour, creativity, and reflection, sending a powerful and resounding message of peace throughout the exhibition space. Most importantly, the event provided an opportunity for students to connect with the wider community through their art and to share messages of kindness, understanding, and hope.
The exhibition ran throughout the school holidays, providing a great opportunity for families to pop in for another visit, purchase any remaining pieces and support Mallee Creatives. A silent auction was also held for a number of collaborative projects, with the total of sales amounting to $1, 390!
