What a special day we had at school in Casterton recently, celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Our day started early with a family breakfast before school. Some of the food was prepared by our students and staff in classroom cooking activities the day before and some was whipped up on the day! We are so grateful for everyone who contributed. Many families were in attendance and enjoyed the opportunity to share a meal and connect with others.
After the breakfast we had a liturgy, a time to reflect on the love of Jesus for all humanity, and then moved back into the classrooms to commence our Wellbeing Day. This term we have had a focus on kindness, striving to be the best humans we can be and our morning Wellbeing activities were based on this theme. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is a time to make the presence of Christ known through our words and actions, so this was a meaningful connection for our students.
For the rest of the day the students engaged in activities in mixed age groups that were either supportive of building positive mental health or connected to learning more about our school, Sacred Heart. They created beautiful ‘heart art’, danced, were mindful, read stories together and toured the Church and old school buildings to learn more about the history of their community. We were so blessed to have Justin McInerney join us for the day, engaging our students in scripture and sharing his incredible knowledge. We are also hugely grateful to Justin for heading up to the hall at 6.00am to light the fire so that our families could have breakfast in the warmth!
Quote of the day from one of our students… “that was the best day ever because we did no reading, writing or maths!” It’s days like this that we are even more grateful for the opportunities we have in Catholic schools to really impact our students and see the joy they bring to us.
