Friday, May 15 marked the official Blessing and Opening of Marian College Ararat’s new building, the Oak Learning Centre. Sincere gratitude is expressed for all who have used their gifts, skills and energy to complete this wonderful learning centre, the benefits of which will be enjoyed by generations of Marian College students.

The building began with Mrs Carmel Barker, who along with Business Manager Mrs Leonie McGuckian, submitted a grant application with the vision of creating a flexible, contemporary learning space for Marian College. Leonie in particular was pivotal in ensuring the success of the building, overseeing the majority of the project with careful stewardship and attention to detail.

Former Acting Principal, Mr Matthew Summers, was also integral to ensuring the success of the project. Kildare Ministries, VCEA and DOBCEL are acknowledged and thanked for their support over the duration of the build, along with the wonderful work of Heather McQueen of Life Architecture and Scott Carey and Brad Gifford from SJ Weir.

The Brigidine Cross that adorns the Moore Street side of the Oak Learning Centre was crafted by former student Sophie Cooper, who was completing a School Based Apprenticeship at Gason in 2025. Gason partnered with Manhari Metals to provide financial and practical support, resulting in this beautiful feature for our new building.
