In light of the ongoing uncertainty around future COVID-19 restrictions regarding travel and public gatherings, especially social distancing, a decision has been taken for the first Plenary Council assembly to take place using a combination of online and in-person delivery. The assembly, scheduled for October 3-10, 2021 in Adelaide, will see groups gather at the local level, with some sessions taking part in those small groups and, in other sessions, small groups across the country connecting with each other.
Plenary Council president Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB acknowledged that the change to a “multi-modal” format was not the preferred way forward, but said the Council’s assemblies could not be postponed indefinitely. Earlier this year, the two Council assemblies were moved 12 months later than originally planned.
Archbishop Costelloe said regardless of the delivery method, the assembly will keep prayer, discernment and renewal in Christ at its centre.
