Mass of Thanksgiving for Bishop Shane Mackinlay

Bishop Paul Bird CSsR, Bishop of Ballarat, invited Bishop Shane Mackinlay to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving in our diocese following his Episcopal Ordination to the Sandhurst Diocese.

Mass was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Ballarat at 7.00pm.  Bishop Paul welcomed and congratulated Bishop Shane on his appointment.  Bishop Paul also welcomed members of Shane’s family who were in attendance.

Bishop Shane thanked all present for their support, prayers and encouragement following his appointment, especially from the diocesan clergy who were con-celebrating this Mass.  Bishop Shane then led the Mass for the large crowd.

Many ministries of the Mass were filled by members of the Bungaree and Gordon parishes, where Bishop Shane was Parish Priest and Visiting Priest prior to his current appointment.  There were many people from these parishes in attendance.

The music was ably led by Roger Hillman and members of the choir, Cantor Majella Muller and Organist Geoff Martin.  Many thanks to all who volunteered their time to rehearsals and attendance at the Mass.  Thanks also to those who prepared the Cathedral for the celebration.

Bishop Paul led a blessing for Bishop Shane at the end of Mass.  The vestments worn by Bishop Shane at this Mass are a gift to him on behalf of the Diocese of Ballarat.

Supper followed in the Hall and again, a large crowd was in attendance.  We were well looked after by Sally Morris and her family.  Many people took this opportunity to catch-up with Bishop Shane and offer their congratulations to him, especially for those who were not able to attend his Ordination in Bendigo last month.

Many thanks to Bishop Shane for travelling back to Ballarat and celebrating this Mass with us and to his family for their attendance.
