PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

CELEBRANT: In our minds we are to be the same as Christ Jesus, who emptied himself even to death on the cross.  Let us be united with him in prayer for the whole of humanity.

 

LEADER:

We pray for Pope Francis and all spiritual leaders, that they will be sure guides for us to the wonderful mystery of God.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for Francis, our Pope, in communion with the bishops shepherding our Church and for all those, lay and ordained, who minister to migrants and refugees, that accompanied by our prayers and support may tirelessly champion a culture that upholds the innate dignity of all migrants and refugees.

We pray for all our nation’s leaders and policy makers, that God grant them compassion, wisdom and guidance in their discernment so they can enact laws that ensure the greater protection of all migrants and those who need to get a fair go.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for all migrants and for refugees who, like Jesus, have been forced to flee, that the nations of the world will work together to give them safety and shelter.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for the many in our midst whose mental health is under great stress, that the support of family, friends and professional services will lead them to peace of mind.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for all who are working to save the world’s rivers and streams, that they will convince authorities to protect this vital resource for the good of all.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for the citizens of countries with oppressive regimes, that the courage of peaceful demonstrators will help create a new era of justice, freedom and solidarity.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for health workers and administrators in places overwhelmed by the spread of the coronavirus, that they receive all the support and resources they need.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for children and young people at critical stages of their education, that they succeed in overcoming the disadvantage of a disrupted school year.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for older persons around the world, that they be cherished, cared for, enabled to live full and fruitful lives.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for the recently deceased Helen Thompson, Clare Coller, Dr Chris Charnley, Diana Brown, Carolyn Fidler, Dean Jones, Padre Arnaldo Babo la ho Maromak and those whose anniversaries we honour Keith Nelson, Fathers Kevin O’Brien, Conway and Con O’Sullivan, Des Wombwell, Candido Do Santo, Candida Dos Reis, Marcos Maia, Cristina De Jesus.

CELEBRANT: Holy God, you raised your Son from the shame of the cross to the glory of heaven.  Raise us, we pray, from the shame of sin to the glory of love.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
