Prayers of the Faithful

CELEBRANT: As we keep watch for the day of Christ, let us pray in peace for the salvation of the world.

 

LEADER:

We pray for the Church of Australia as we continue the preparations for the Plenary Council, may we ‘Listen to what the Spirit is asking of us’ and like the clay in the potter’s hands be open to being formed by God’s hand.

We pray for all whose lively hope inspires us, that they will encourage the disheartened to face the future with confidence.

We pray for peace-makers in every place of warfare, that they bring an end to violence and hate.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for the people of Europe and North America facing winter with COVID uncontrolled, that emergency measures will stop the spread of the disease.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for Palestinian people, that today’s International Day of Solidarity will help sustain them in their quest for a viable homeland.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for all migrants and refugees – those risking their lives in perilous journeys, those long marooned in camps, and those still detained under Australian authority – that their hopes for new life will not be denied.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for people with disabilities around the world, that they be honoured in their humanity and allowed to enrich the community with their gifts.

We pray for the victims of human trafficking, that this week’s commemoration of the abolition of slavery will strengthen international endeavours to rescue them.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for all who are tempted to end their lives, especially men and young indigenous people, that a spark of advent hope may save them from despair.

We pray for the recently deceased Bryan Mair, Kate Kelly, Leon Whitson, Helen Bishop, Neil John Trewartha, Diego Maradona, Bernie O’Shannassy and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time, Nell Braybrook, Fathers McCunnie, Martin and Martin Gleeson, Woodford, Sister Mary Ellen Ryan, Dalmacio Damaso.
