CELEBRANT: While we wait for the Day of God to make all things new, let us pray with hope for all we need.

We pray for Pope Francis, that his pastoral care for the whole human family will inspire the leaders of every nation.

We pray that all like a good shepherd we will strive to be humble, healing, and merciful community as we immerse ourselves in the journey of the Plenary Council.

We pray for disadvantaged populations thrust back into poverty by COVID-19, that the world community will work together for their recovery.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for all people denied justice by oppressive or corrupt regimes, that Human Rights Day this week will help their cry be heard.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for the victims of war in North Africa and of famine in Yemen, especially young children, that aid agencies be allowed to give them emergency relief.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for the elders of indigenous communities around Australia, that they be respected and heeded in their role as custodians of country.

(Pause for silent prayer)

Loving God, hear us                           R. Loving God, hear our prayer.

 

We pray for the members of Australia’s defence forces, that the loyal service they render not be blighted by the misdeeds of the few.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for communities in fire-prone areas around the nation, that they will prepare wisely for this summer and call us all to climate conversion.

We pray for ourselves, that we will come fully alive in the Spirit with which we have been baptised.

We pray for the recently deceased Margaret Anderson, Martin Porzig, Patrick Coyle, Edith Tamayo Avila and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time, Fathers Payne and O’Dowd, Sister Margaret Shiel, Vebronia Nebo.

CELEBRANT: God of mercy and power, you sent John the Baptist to announce the advent of your Son.  Give us courage like his to testify in Jesus in all we say and do.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.
