Prayers of the Faithful

CELEBRANT: The light of Christ has dawned upon us in all its glory.  In peace let us ask God to dispel all darkness from our world.

 

LEADER:

We pray for the keepers and teachers of wisdom, especially Pope Francis and Bishop Paul, that they will shed the light of truth for all who seek it.

We pray for people living under brutal and oppressive regimes, that they will keep the torch of freedom alight for one another.

We pray for the human family, that our shared hopes for a healthier world this year will be realised.

We pray for all the delegates preparing for this year’s Plenary Council, that they will be attentive to the heartfelt hopes voiced in the initial consultations.

We pray for those who have lost loved ones or livelihoods as a result of the pandemic, that this New Year will bring them healing and restore hope.

(Pause for silent prayer)

We pray for the peoples of the Pacific, that the twin threats of rising sea levels and regional power struggles will be averted by cooperative international action.

We pray for those with us on summer holidays, that they will enjoy a refreshing break and return home safe and well.

We pray for the recently deceased Maureen Healey, Joyce Lane, Joan O’Brien, Alfredo Horta, Morgan McAlinden, Haydn Toone, Ted Hinton and for those whose anniversary of death occurs around this time Sister Emmanuel Cook RSM, Clare Haylock, Peter Morrissey

CELEBRANT: Holy God and Father of light, you have revealed the splendour of your glory in Christ your Son. Help us walk always as children of the light.  We ask this through the same Christ our Lord.
