Diocesan Pastoral Council

In recent years, our Church has been engaged in a significant journey of renewal and discernment through the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia, the Synod on Synodality, and, within our own local context, the Diocesan Assembly. These experiences have invited us to reflect more deeply on what it means to be the People of God, walking together in faith, listening to one another, attentive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and committed to the mission of Christ.

The establishment of a Diocesan Pastoral Council is an important step in this journey. It reflects our shared commitment to fostering a culture of prayerful discernment, collaboration and participation across the life of the Diocese.

The Council will provide a valued forum through which the voices, experiences and gifts of the people of the diocese can help shape the ongoing discernment and mission of our local Church. Together, we seek to recognise where the Holy Spirit is leading us and how we are called to respond to the opportunities and challenges of our time. As we undertake this work, we do so with openness and trust, recognising that the Holy Spirit often moves in unexpected ways, inviting us to new insights, fresh possibilities and deeper faithfulness.

We invite members of our diocesan community to prayerfully consider whether God may be calling them to contribute to this important ministry. Service on the DPC is an opportunity to listen deeply, discern wisely and work collaboratively in support of the mission of Christ. Through prayer, reflection and dialogue, Council members will help shape the future of our local Church as we seek to respond faithfully to the opportunities and challenges before us.

The strength of the Council will be shaped by the wisdom, faith and generosity of those who choose to serve. We are seeking people from across the Diocese who bring a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and who are committed to the life and mission of the Church. Whether your gifts have been nurtured through parish involvement, ministry, professional experience, community leadership, or a deep commitment to your faith, your voice can help guide and strengthen the future direction of our Diocese.
